<p><strong>Ram Setu Swimming Expedition: </strong>Shaaswat Sharma and Bharat Sachdeva, two of India's accomplished swimmers, completed a 32-kilometre swim challenge across the Palk Strait, an adventure which they dubbed as the "Ram Setu Expedition". The two swimmers took a cloked time of 10 hours 30 minutes to achieved what they had set out for. Their daring act was described as a "token contribution for Universal Brotherhood and friendship between neighbours" on an Instagram post by the swimmers.</p> <p>In addition, the expedition also aimed to raise awareness about water safety and the prevention of drowning incidents. The two swimmers began their expedition from Talaimannar in Sri Lanka. It concluded at Dhanushkoti in India. There was an expert crew who supervised their swim and even helped them navigate. They also provided the swimmers with nutrition as they travelled across from Sri Lanka to India.</p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; border: 0; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: 0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width: 540px; min-width: 326px; padding: 0; width: calc(100% - 2px);" data-instgrm-captioned="" data-instgrm-permalink="https://ift.tt/sfUP9XO" data-instgrm-version="14"> <div style="padding: 16px;"> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: row; align-items: center;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; flex-grow: 0; height: 40px; margin-right: 14px; width: 40px;"> </div> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: column; flex-grow: 1; justify-content: center;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; width: 100px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; width: 60px;"> </div> </div> </div> <div style="padding: 19% 0;"> </div> <div style="display: block; height: 50px; margin: 0 auto 12px; width: 50px;"> </div> <div style="padding-top: 8px;"> <div style="color: #3897f0; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 550; line-height: 18px;">View this post on Instagram</div> </div> <div style="padding: 12.5% 0;"> </div> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: row; margin-bottom: 14px; align-items: center;"> <div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; height: 12.5px; width: 12.5px; transform: translateX(0px) translateY(7px);"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; height: 12.5px; transform: rotate(-45deg) translateX(3px) translateY(1px); width: 12.5px; flex-grow: 0; margin-right: 14px; margin-left: 2px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; height: 12.5px; width: 12.5px; transform: translateX(9px) translateY(-18px);"> </div> </div> <div style="margin-left: 8px;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; flex-grow: 0; height: 20px; width: 20px;"> </div> <div style="width: 0; height: 0; border-top: 2px solid transparent; border-left: 6px solid #f4f4f4; border-bottom: 2px solid transparent; transform: translateX(16px) translateY(-4px) rotate(30deg);"> </div> </div> <div style="margin-left: auto;"> <div style="width: 0px; border-top: 8px solid #F4F4F4; border-right: 8px solid transparent; transform: translateY(16px);"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; flex-grow: 0; height: 12px; width: 16px; transform: translateY(-4px);"> </div> <div style="width: 0; height: 0; border-top: 8px solid #F4F4F4; border-left: 8px solid transparent; transform: translateY(-4px) translateX(8px);"> </div> </div> </div> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: column; flex-grow: 1; justify-content: center; margin-bottom: 24px;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; width: 224px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; width: 144px;"> </div> </div> <p style="color: #c9c8cd; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px; margin-bottom: 0; margin-top: 8px; overflow: hidden; padding: 8px 0 7px; text-align: center; text-overflow: ellipsis; white-space: nowrap;"><a style="color: #c9c8cd; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: 17px; text-decoration: none;" href="https://ift.tt/sfUP9XO" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A post shared by Shaaswat Sharma (@shaaswat.sharma)</a></p> </div> </blockquote> <p> <script src="//https://ift.tt/6XcgVtN" async=""></script> </p> <p><br />Meanwhile, an external observer also joined the crew to ensure that the rules and regulations were being adhered to during the course of the journey.</p> <h3><span style="color: #ba372a;"><strong>Shaaswat And I Have Been Working Towards Realising Dream For A Few Years: Bharat Sachdeva</strong></span></h3> <p>When asked to remark on their successful swimming expedition, Sachdeva compared the completion of what they had set out to do to winning a medal for the country.<br /><br />"This is as big as winning a medal for the country. Shaaswat and I have been working towards realising this dream for a few years, and we are glad it has finally come true. Besides promoting the spirit of unity, our aim is to draw attention towards the dire support this sport needs in our country, be it the right infrastructure or investments. Our efforts will be successful when we will see more young talent from India opting for swimming and representing the country at prestigious national and international platforms," Sachdeva said as quoted in a report carried by news agency ANI.<br /><br />On the other hand, Sharma highlighted the cultural importance of the achievement.<br /><br />"For me, this achievement has a very high spiritual and cultural significance. As a national swimmer, I have participated in several challenges, but crossing the Ram Setu is one for the country. While we were swimming the stretch, we were filled with mixed emotions, of celebrating the spirit of universal brotherhood and on the other hand, calling out to the nation to nurture swimming as a key sport in the country," Sharma said as per the same source.</p>
